We Don't Want to Die Like This:
AIDS in Odessa

Karsten Hein
Germany ï 2004 ï 76 mins

In terms of the AIDS epidemic, Odessa is one of the world's most heavily affected regions. According to WHO, an estimated 150,000 people in this city are infected with HIV. In Odessa, the film makers experienced conditions, which reflected that this tremendously high number could actually be possible. Shot under difficult conditions, "We don't want to die like this. AIDS in Odessa" shows the life of AIDS patients surviving in dismal conditions such as missing medical supply, social discrimination and general neglect.
